Sharky is from a parallel Earth where the polar ice caps melted, covering the planet with water. The sea covered nuclear power facilities and various other harsh pollutants, making the sea water so toxic that many creatures began to mutate. Sharky is one of the products of this disaster. Once a regular great white shark, he mutated into a muscular shark man, and because of his aggressive appearance, he had little choice but to become a pirate.

If Captain Fury and his Anchor Fleet are the kings of the sea, then Sharky and his Shark Pirates can be said to be the hegemons of the deep. Sharky takes it for granted that he is Captain Fury's arch-nemesis, although the arrogant Captain Fury never takes Sharky and his Shark Pirates seriously.
